A Message from Superintendent, Dale Fortner
.jpg) Welcome to Wadsworth City Schools – a triple-A school district, emphasizing Academics, Athletics, and the Arts. Our focus is to produce well-rounded students who are well-prepared for the challenges of the 21st Century. For the past eight years, our district has been designated Excellent by the Ohio Department of Education, and this year we have retained Excellence with Distinction. This ranking is based on student achievement resulting from superior instruction, and only 116 public districts out of 610 statewide have been so named.
Our district is extremely fortunate to serve a community that prizes educational excellence. Due to voters’ overwhelming support of a bond issue that enabled us to take advantage of 37% matching funds from the Ohio School Facilities Commission, we recently broke ground for a new High School/Community Center Complex that we expect to be move-in ready by summer 2012. This building will allow Wadsworth High School to share community space with the City of Wadsworth, Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Health System, and Wadsworth Public Library, enhancing recreational opportunities for all age groups and serving as a satellite hub for wellness and library services. Our three oldest elementary buildings, Isham Memorial, Overlook, and Valley View are also scheduled to be replaced by 2013 as part of the total construction package. Our district motto, “Where Quality Education is a Community Tradition”, becomes especially meaningful in light of these exciting changes on the horizon.
The Wadsworth City Board of Education is comprised of five community members from different walks of life who share a unified vision for this district. We are most grateful for their stability and leadership. We are also grateful for a licensed staff numbering nearly 300 who take their responsibilities to the students of this community most seriously. Our 225+ support staff employees do everything from getting the students to school to cleaning their classrooms and maintaining their playing fields – and everything in between. The combined efforts of all these individuals make Wadsworth City Schools the caring, nurturing, educational environment that the students of this community deserve.
